Well it’s happened… My house looks AND smells like Christmas has descended and is here to stay forever. I am 100% thrilled about it. A couple of Christmas’ ago when we were visiting Utah, this darling lady stopped by my darling in-law’s house and dropped off the most amazing smelling goodie bag ever… I quickly inspected it and realized it was the nutmeg and cinnamon I was smelling. Inside there I also found an orange, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and some cranberries. Thank goodness for instructions or I would have sat and sniffed that bag all of vacation. I was hooked once I got it going. They made the house smell like actual Christmas!

I’ve been making my own variations off and on ever since. I have some I bake, I have many stovetop ones, and I just love how my entire house smells a bit more like home when they are going.

I’ve been doing this at my house for a few weeks now, but today I got the kids to the store and had them pick out ribbon and goodie bags so that they can hand deliver Christmas cheer to our beautiful friends and Sunday school teachers.

One of my most favorite things about this simple recipe is that my kids can help start to finish. I made the bows at the end but the kids put everything in the bags besides the nutmeg. (They of course could have done that as well but it went into naptime) I set up stations on the counters and they just made these basically on their own. I loved watching little Lilah count out three cinnamon sticks for each bag and Chase comparing handfuls of Cranberries to make sure it was nothing short of perfection. This day was magic.

This recipe I’m sharing today is my own variation.

3 cinnamon sticks

1/4 tablespoon nutmeg

1 sliced orange

a large handful of cranberries

3 little pieces from your beautiful natural evergreen tree

3 cups of water

annnnnd simmer on low all day long! Add water as needed.

Some variations include:

Skipping the orange but using everything else.

Using apples instead of orange slices.

Also try not adding fruit and only going with water, spices and an evergreen bough.

XO babe faces.
